Victor Wembanyama has had the impact of a hurricane since making his NBA debut. Proof of this is this completely insane statistic from the two seasons he played in the United States, with the Frenchman (very) largely dominating the competition.

His return will likely be the most anticipated of all in 2025-26. While superstars like Damian Lillard and Jayson Tatum could miss the entire season due to injuries, Victor Wembanyama is expected to be in the starting lineup from kickoff. That’s assuming his recovery goes well, of course, as he recovers from a deep vein thrombosis diagnosed in February.

And so, the entire Spurs fanbase is keeping their fingers crossed that he can play again as soon as possible, having wasted no time establishing himself as the Texans’ undisputed franchise player. While still only 21 years old, Wembanyama has already proven he’s capable of being a team leader. Not only is his attitude on and off the field exemplary, but he’s monstrous when the times come to play.

Victor Wembanyama’s crazy cleanliness on shot-blocking

After 117 regular-season games, the Alien is averaging over 24 points, 11 rebounds, and, most importantly, 3.7 blocks. Unsurprisingly, he topped the blocker rankings during his rookie season and then during his sophomore campaign. And this despite only playing 47 games during the latter… which doesn’t stop him from still being at the top, even when you add in the playoff stats of his opponents.

Before his draft, his defensive potential was already completely insane in the eyes of scouts, and the 2024 Olympic vice-champion has only confirmed their hopes for him since. A San Antonio fan recently revealed a statistic that demonstrates just how unbeatable the former Boulogne-Levallois player is around the rim:

@spurs_muse : Most blocks minus fouls over the last two seasons: 172 – Victor Wembanyama ; (gap), (yeah it’s a big gap), (honestly such a huge gap), (no seriously it’s still going), (I know, it’s insane), 30 – Walker Kessler ; 13 – Anthony Davis. He’s such an efficient rim protector.

Wemby doesn’t just block everything that moves, he does it with great intelligence, avoiding fouls in the process. This makes him even more of a deterrent in the paint, when opposing players sometimes don’t even dare to mess with him. When we say that the young center could become one of the best defenders in the history of basketball, it’s not without reason.
