The Lakers are expected to make at least one trade this off-season, in particular for a true pivot. But several are also possible, especially if Rob Pelinka finds his match. Another player could pay the price.
After a disappointing loss to the Wolves in the first round of the playoffs, the Lakers have some adjustments to make behind the scenes. The absence of a true pivot is a problem for this team, but it’s not the only reason behind this season’s disillusionment. Defense and player effort simply weren’t enough.
Fans are therefore expecting real progress for 2026, with a team that should fit Luka Doncic better from now on. He has quickly become the priority in Los Angeles, which is why the Angelinos are looking for a pivot to help him out in matches. And to do that, they’ll have to make some trades.
Another departure confirmed for the Lakers?
And for good reason: if the Lakers want a good player capable of making an impact, they’ll probably have to go through trade and not free agency. The franchise has already tried this season with Christian Koloko and Alex Len, but that’s not enough for an organization with championship aspirations. But it also means we’re preparing for some departures.
Shake Milton, Gabe Vincent and Dalton Knecht: these are three players who should be available this summer for a trade. The departure is not confirmed, but the Purple and Gold will use them if necessary… just like Rui Hachimura? Far from being untouchable, the former Wizards player could also pack his bags.
@LakersBetter : “REPORT: Rui Hachimura will likely come up in trade talks this offseason, per Khobi Price. While he’s made a case for an extension, his $18M expiring deal and ongoing development could make him a key chip as the Lakers seek roster upgrades.”
The Japanese’s contract is perfect to appear in a trade and facilitate a deal. Between that and the fact that the player is far from untouchable, even annoying some fans in this campaign, we’re thinking that a departure isn’t impossible. But once again, everything will depend on the counterparty, as we already know that the Lakers will be meticulous when it comes to recruiting.
