Having arrived in Philadelphia last summer, Paul George had a very difficult first year with the Sixers. Many are calling for the franchise to part ways with him immediately… but the news surrounding him is not reassuring.
Who would have thought the Sixers would be this bad this season? It must be said that they’ve had to deal with a lot of personnel issues, with their key players all missing dozens of games. Whether it’s Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, or Paul George, no one has escaped… but the worst part is, they haven’t been brilliant when they’ve been on the court either.
The latter is a rather sad symbol of this, as Philadelphia had bet big on him last offseason. Standing out more on his podcast than on the field, the winger has already been taken aback by most fans who wouldn’t be opposed to his departure. But according to insider Jake Fischer, the chances of the management being able to part ways with him are close to zero, currently:
No upcoming trade for Paul George?
There have been no indications that they are looking to package George with the No. 3 pick or try to move him on his own. The Sixers surely understand that there is little-to-no chance they could optimize a trade return for the 35-year-old after his injury-riddled maiden season as a Sixer … especially with three seasons remaining on George’s max deal.
It has been whispered often in league circles, going back to Philadelphia’s free agency courtship of George last summer, that the Sixers would not turn around and try to move their marquee acquisition in the early stages of his Philly tenure unless George asked for a deal himself. Sources say Philadelphia greatly values the opportunity to add a young player to its core, which already features 24-year-old Tyrese Maxey and soon-to-be-second-year guard Jared McCain to complement the veteran duo of Joel Embiid and Paul George.
This isn’t exactly a reassuring update for Philly fans, who were surely hoping the franchise could bounce back this way. Fischer’s revelations also align with those of insider Kyle Neubeck, who recently spoke out:
Spoke to a source tonight who threw cold water on recent reports that the Sixers are interested in packaging pick 3 to acquire a vet/vet star. Matches the team’s recent public comments that they’re excited to add more dynamic young players to the core.
With PG13’s market value near zero right now, this may be Daryl Morey’s only option. But that doesn’t solve the problem…
