The Timberwolves are in a tricky situation against the Thunder, with another defeat in their last game. Their coach made a controversial decision and Charles Barkley, annoyed, stepped up the tackles against him.
Same situation in the West and East for these conference finals. The Thunder lead Minnesota 2-0, while Indiana now leads New York 2-0. No suspense at the moment, but anything is still possible, even if a win in Game 3 for the Knicks and Wolves is now almost mandatory.
Making 0-3 history? Nobody has. Having your back against the wall like that would be catastrophic, and Minnesota will be looking to avoid that this Saturday night, for the rest of the series in the West. But Rudy Gobert and his partners are struggling, while their coach made a very dubious choice in Game 2, far from pleasing.
Wolves coach heavily criticized
Chris Finch, though well liked by his players, decided to trust Gobert, unlike Julius Randle. Despite a better game for the inside man in Game 2, he was benched for the entire fourth quarter. An important decision that didn’t help the team at all in the end.
Many fans have a grudge against the coach, who is accused of making the player lose confidence. Randle was exceptional against the Warriors, crushing Draymond Green for the entire series, but Finch decided to opt for a different strategy. On TNT, Charles Barkley was quick to criticize the coach for this decision.
Charles Barkley : “He played great in Game 1, and he had a tough night (in Game 2). But the coach overreacted. And the one thing you don’t want to do (is) you’re home in a must-win situation … you can’t take his confidence in a must-win game. Your job as a coach is to instill confidence, not take confidence.”
So did Finch make a mistake? For many fans, the answer is clearly yes for the coach, who they feel is directly responsible for the Wolves’ difficulties. Perhaps we’ll see confirmation of this as early as Game 3, when Minnesota must win. After all, it’s going to be tough to string together 4 wins against the Thunder…
