While it’s still unclear whether Giannis Antetokounmpo will leave the Bucks, some fans are dreaming of a move to the Lakers. One insider looks into the matter, and he says it’s not impossible. On paper at least.
Where will Giannis Antetokounmpo be playing come October? If you have to ask fans today, many will tell you the Bucks, so slim are the chances of such a player leaving Milwaukee. After a few weeks of rumors, we still don’t know whether the Greek has asked to leave or not.
Chris Haynes explained that the meeting was supposed to take place last week, but the outcome is still unknown. Giannis could reaffirm his desire to continue with the Bucks, despite the setbacks, or join another organization. We know that the player is very ambitious and is desperate to win a second championship before he retires.
Giannis Antetokounmpo at the Lakers? Not impossible…
From this point on, leaving the Bucks is undoubtedly the best option when you see the state of this franchise. The front office has made some bad choices, and Damian Lillard’s injury has made things even worse. A departure is therefore to be taken seriously, with fans on the Lakers’ side already hoping for another big move from Rob Pelinka.
Giannis and Luka Doncic in the City of Angels? It would be a spectacular duo, but we don’t see it happening any time soon. Bleacher Report’s Eric Pincus was asked about the subject. Do the Lakers have a chance? Yes, but they’re probably very, very weak right now. Not with the assets they have at their disposal.
Eric Pincus on the Lakers’ chances of getting Giannis : “The Lakers are on the honorable mention list for Antetokounmpo. He’d have to push extremely hard to get that done.”
The Greek Freak’s problem is that he has no say at the moment over his future destination. He’s still under contract and the Bucks can stall to raise the stakes. And if the player asks to join the City of Angels, the front office is under no obligation to validate such a request. Suffice it to say that a move to the Lakers is unlikely, especially as most of the team’s assets have already gone for Luka Doncic.
