In addition to Luka Doncic and the Lakers, LeBron James will also have a decision to make over the summer. It’s an important choice for the King, who is not in the mood to make a gift this time. Will this put pressure on the front office?

Largely dominated by the Timberwolves in the playoffs, the Lakers will have their work cut out for them in the off-season. They’ll have to deal with Luka Doncic and his contract extension, as well as LeBron James. Remember that if he declines his player option, he’ll be free of all obligations in the near future. He will therefore be free to sign elsewhere.

He’s due a little over 52 million for next year, but it’s rumored that the King doesn’t want to make any concessions. He could accept his option, or refuse it and sign a bigger contract with the Lakers. It’s hard to know more at the moment, although his case has taken another turn with the recent article in The Athletic.

LeBron James ready to cast doubt on his future?

In a recent article devoted to the King, we learn that those close to him refuse to confirm a new season with the Lakers. His clan wants to stall, which can be seen as a simple pressure tactic on the front office. A way of recruiting big players to play for the title… or simply to get the contract he wants.

In the same article, we also learn things that are consistent with this version. For example, if he decides to stay in Los Angeles, the Akron native would have no desire to give his managers a gift, unlike last season. The King would want a maximum salary and would not want to help Pelinka and company.

The Athletic : “If LeBron James returns to the Lakers, league sources reveal that he has no intention of accepting a pay cut comparable to the one considered a year ago. Last summer, LeBron accepted a cut of around 2.7 million to help the Lakers stay below the second apron and maintain roster flexibility.”

No gift this time for James, who wants a full salary and will leave the Lakers to fend for themselves. It’s a decision that may come as a surprise to some, especially when you consider that this may well be the last campaign of his career. He could be banking everything on the title, but it looks like the King has other plans.
