Next season will be crucial for Joel Embiid. Too regularly absent for the past two seasons, he will have to take advantage of announced departures and injuries to finally make it past the conference semi-finals. In fact, a major Sixers fan is losing patience with him.
The debates between Nikola Jokic and Joel Embiid seem a long time ago. While the Joker confirms his status as the best player on the planet a little more each game, despite his elimination by the Thunder, the 2023 MVP is still chasing his first conference finals. And with his recalcitrant knee, it’s going to get harder and harder for him to run. Both literally and figuratively.
After a 2023-2024 season of just 39 games played, the Sixers pivot is coming off a season of just 19 games, proof of a physical fragility that is crippling his franchise. Although the team pulled out all the stops to bring back Paul George, Embiid was not available enough to make good on this investment. As a result, Philadelphia missed out on the playoffs.
Gillie blasts Joel Embiid and his injury
And it’s a situation that’s starting to seriously frustrate fans. With Jayson Tatum’s injury set to open up the Eastern Conference even further, Philadelphia will have no excuse for poor results. Appearing on PG’s podcast, Gillie, a star host in the U.S., spoke with a clear message:
PG, let me tell you something: I gave you a pass for your bad season because you were coming back from injury. You’re of a certain age, maybe you need some time. This coming year, you’re going to have to be on fire. And there’s one thing I don’t understand about Joel Embiid. The guy played in the Olympics, and I don’t think he missed a single training session or game with Team USA.
You know what Sixers fans couldn’t care less about? The Games! Fuck the Olympics! When he was with LeBron James and Stephen Curry last summer, he could run and jump high without hurting. He didn’t even limp. And then, after the Olympics, he had time to recover. I don’t think he should have made the Games. We gave him a 3-year, $200 million contract! We’ve had faith in Process for 10 years now. Now it’s time to win!
Gillie is the voice of Philadelphia on social networks. His anger at Joel Embiid will not be forgotten, and it could affect other Sixers fans. After years of loyal service, the pivot will have to repay the franchise for its many investments, first by being available, then by taking the team to the heights of the Eastern Conference.
