The arrival of Luka Doncic has changed many things for the Lakers this season, and it’s probably far from over. We know that Rob Pelinka wants to make multiple changes, and one player could pay the price.

The Lakers have their work cut out for them over the summer. The franchise will have to look for a pivot to improve the quality of its roster, with too many gaps against the Wolves in this first round of the playoffs. But who to pick up on the market? Brook Lopez, Daniel Gafford and Nic Claxton are just some of the names to keep an eye on.

What is certain is that the Angelinos’ off-season will revolve around Doncic. He has quickly become the priority in the City of Angels, now the leader and the one who must lead this team to the title. LeBron James, who is nearing retirement, is bound to take a back seat when it comes to making decisions behind the scenes.

Inevitable departure for the Lakers?

But he remains very important to this franchise. Even though he’s already 40 and will celebrate his 41st birthday in December, his role with the Lakers is well known, unlike that of Austin Reaves. The latter has been sidelined on the floor and didn’t really shine against the Wolves in the playoffs. Some fans think his departure is preferable today.

These fans are not alone, as many analysts have the same opinion on the subject. Why not trade Reaves for a true center, who will undoubtedly be more useful in the future? Former Clippers star Lou Williams thinks so. In his recent show, he thinks Reaves has become useless in the City of Angels.

Lou Williams : “Now you have Luka, you don’t really need what Austin Reaves bring to the table. You have the alpha in that category. You don’t necessarily need the second-best option there. You’re gonna go and upgrade.”

Recruiting a center using Reaves is probably the most logical option today. We don’t know if the Lakers plan to do this, but we imagine Pelinka has already given the idea some thought. The fullback has shown his limitations for the moment, and given the gaps in the racket, it seems more important today to try and win the title.
